Tselise Sangtam hails from New Tsadang village under Chare block in Longkhim sub division. He is a marginal poor farmer, working round the year to meet his needs.  He owns about 1.50 Ha of land and mainly cultivates maize and vegetables. He received a brush cutter from the department of agriculture, Longkhim under SMAM scheme. The department during its SMAM training programme taught him how to operate the machine in the fieldlfarrn. Now he can easily operate without any problem and trains his fellow farmers in his village. While handling if the machine gets damaged, he can now repair his machine from agro servicing centre which has been set up in the entire district by the department. He has already been registered in the CHC app and his brush cutter is now readily available for hiring at a cheaper rate for the entire interested farmer in and around his village. Now less labour is needed because he does all the weeding and clearing of bushes/hedges in his fieldifarm using the brush cutter without hiring any labour which saves more money for him thereby investing more in buying quality seeds and manures. Because of the use of healthy seeds and maintaining better soil environment, there is an increased growth of crop resulting in increased crop production which overall gives him higher returns. He is now a busy man eaming about 40,000 to 45,0001- a year with the help of brush cutter. Farm mechanization under SMAM has definitely boosted poor farmers like him and is setting a good example to other farmers in his village.
