The intervention of SMAM Scheme on Mr. Boto Sumi's farming life has enormously changed the way

it was never before. As a marginal farmer, cultivating paddy (1.0 Ha) throughout his farming life trying to meet the family's daily bread, he had been facing difficulties due to non- availability of modern farming machineries and equipments coupled with unstable financial constraints. Unemployed and agriculture being his only source of income, he could not afford to buy any modern agriculture equipments and machineries to improvise his farming system. The only thing he could do to survive his farming is through physical hard labor which sometimes fails to get enough return even for a family. It was hard for him to increase the cultivation area and improvise his farming system under such poor condition. It was a boon for him when the department in consultation with a village council identified him as a beneficiary and gave him a power tiller for free under the SMAM Scheme. He was also given a proper training on power tiller operation and maintenance of the machine by the department. With the help of the power tiller given by the Agriculture Department, he's now improvised his farming system which in turn has cut down the cost of production by 40% as he no longer hire labours for field operations. It has also saves his time of field operations and he can now utilise his time judiciously for  extra earning thereby stabilising his economic condition. The better quality field operation done by the power tiller in making the soil more suitable for crop production has improved the yield by 20-30%. Apart from his personal use, he also rent out the power tiller for income generation to other farmers in need in the locality at the reasonable rate through CHC Mobile APR. After the intervention of SMAM Scheme he is now earning around Rs.75,000 to 80,000 per annum compare to Rs. 35,000 to 40,000 per annum before. He is now able

to afford various inputs needed in the field for better returns.
