Rainfed Area Development (Rad) Under Nmsa

Rainfed Area Development (RAD) is one of the component of National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA). NMSA is one of the 8(eight) Mission outlined under National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). It is Centrally Aided Mission launched in the State of Nagaland during 2014-15 (XIIth plan) with the main objectives of Sustainable Production, remunerative and climate resilient, conserve natural resources with optimize utilization of water “Per Drop More Crop”

     During 2016-17, altogether 41 (forty one) clusters have been selected covering all the districts in Nagaland. An area of 1803 ha. has been developed out of the total proposed area of 3408 ha.

CONCEPT: Cluster based development to promote Integrated Farming System (IFS) which is culturally and socially acceptable to the local community. Single cropping system is not recommended under NMSA. It is proposed for diversification with additional income generating activities.

OBJECTIVE:

Focus on integrated farming, water use efficiency, soil health management and synergizing resource conservation

Meet burgeoning demands of food grain in the country

Increase agricultural productivity especially in Rainfed areas

STRATEGY:

Conservation of natural resources in conjunction with development of Rainfed Agriculture

Sustainable use of these available natural resources through appropriate location specific measures

Promote integrated farming system

Value added activities incorporating green house, vermi compost, vegetative barriers, apiculture etc.
